The Globe and Mail called Bin 905 one of the “best places in Canada to find rare wines”, a fact that is not lost on our customers. As consumers we tend to associate the word “rare” with expensive, but wine is unique in that regard.

To us the term “rare” applies to a collective of small, hard-working wine-producing families around the world who are passionate about their craft. Some of these wines are expensive while others are very reasonably priced, but it is their passion for the art of winemaking that draws us to them.

As such, it goes to follow that Bin 905 is staffed by people who share the same passion for wine; virtually all of our staff has formal wine education and they are eager to share that knowledge. We judge the wines we sell by one simple rule; the contents of the bottle. We taste and re-taste everything we sell because we firmly believe that if we don’t enjoy the wine on some level then why should we expect our customers to?

Ridge Monte Bello Dinner & Tasting

If you were to ask wine experts from around the globe to pick but one winery from California as their favourite the name that would likely come up more often than not is Ridge. This is a winery that has set their own course right from the beginning. The winery is situated south of San Francisco in the hippie surf town of Santa Cruz, perched high upon Monte Bello ridge. Since 1962, and under the guidance of their superstar winemaker Paul Draper, Ridge has crafted a wide array of wines that never fail to deliver, from their $30 East Bench Zinfandel all the way up their flagship Monte Bello, a Cabernet Sauvignon-based wine that is consistently ranked among the very best in the world.

On June 5th Bin905 is thrilled to present a vertical tasting of Monte Bello with select vintages going back to 1990. The tasting will be followed by dinner in Divino’s Spirit Room paired with a selection of Ridge wines including their excellent Chardonnay, Zinfandel, Petite Sirah and Carignane. Joining us will be John Olney, Ridge’s VP of winemaking, who will guide us through this remarkable tasting.
